What Have I Learned This Year From AP Lit. & Comp?
Strike One: It ALL starts with time management.
You need to be able to manage your time as a Reader, a Writer, and (in my case) a Student-Athlete.
What are you going to do with everything the pitcher (Mrs. Rutan) is going to throw at you? DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Chunk it out, set a time to accomplish something (whether it be a reading or writing assignment) and hold yourself accountable, make sure you're doing what you told yourself you'd be doing. |
With time management, comes work ethic.
You need to have the discipline to sit down and do what you set aside time for. |
Balancing AP work with other classes is going to be difficult, which is exactly why being able to manage your time is essential.
It's okay to get frustrated. |
Strike Two: Gotta stay positive through it all.
Having a healthy mindset when it comes to the class is very important when striving to be successful in the class.
You are going to get tough assignments, so what? Isn't that what AP is all about? Staying positive goes hand in hand with managing your time; it's one thing to set aside time for something, knocking it out of the park with a positive attitude is a different ball game! |
It's essential to stay positive through some of the more lengthy writing & reading assignment (trust me, it's the only way you'll get through them).
|
Though it may seem impossible, you MUST stay positive through all of the AP Exam preparation, Mrs. Rutan is doing it for your own good!
|
Strike Three: Know when to take a pitch (step away) and when to take a daddy hack (push through).
There are times when you need to push through an assignment until the very end, but, there are also times when you owe it to yourself to take a step back.
Knowing when to step away is a near impossible skill to master, but when you do master this skill, you will save yourself a TON of frustration and anxiety. |
These were all things/people I had to take a step away from across the year, whether it was because I was struggling with comprehension, or just ran out of motivation, while encountering these units, I knew that I needed to step away to avoid frustration.
